AdventHealth Lake Wales Welcomes New General Surgeon
LAKE WALES, Fla. (Tuesday, July 15, 2025) -- AdventHealth Lake Wales is pleased to add to its roster of expert physicians general surgeon Robert Browning, IV, MD.
Dr. Browning is a board-certified general surgeon who is accepting new patients in Lake Wales at the AdventHealth Medical Group General Surgery Office, located at 423 Linden Lane. He began working for AdventHealth Lake Wales in January.
With over 17 years of experience in general surgery, Dr. Browning is an expert in robotic and minimally invasive surgery; he’s performed nearly 2,000 robotic surgeries since he began incorporating robotics into his practice in 2016. Dr. Browning is the only full-time robotic general surgeon dedicated to serving patients solely at AdventHealth Lake Wales.
“I’m fascinated by how speedy the recovery is for my patients when they undergo surgery utilizing robotics. Normally, patients stay at the hospital for a week to recover. With robotic surgery, it often cuts their hospital stay in half,” explained Dr. Browning.
Dr. Browning grew up in Arcadia, Florida. He began his career as a trauma surgeon in Ocala, where he served patients for two years. From there, he moved to Sarasota, where he specialized in general surgery while working for the private practice, Intercoastal Medical Group. Dr. Browning served patients there for ten years, operating out of three hospitals in the Sarasota and Bradenton area. He often treated colorectal cancer patients and patients suffering from diverticular disease. He also specializes in gallbladder removals and hernia repairs.
“In Sarasota, I was one of the busiest robotics surgeons by far. I did about 20 operations a week,” Dr. Browning recalled.
Dr. Browning was attracted to AdventHealth Lake Wales due to its commitment to whole-person care and utilization of the most advanced medical treatments. An outdoorsman at heart, Dr. Browning also appreciated the opportunity to return to his roots in an area with a slower pace of life and small-town charm. He enjoys the shorter commute, affording him more time to concentrate on patients.
“I like their philosophy of taking care of patients, the spiritual aspects. That’s what attracted me to AdventHealth. With AdventHealth, you can be in a small town like Lake Wales and still have all of the technology that you need to care for patients,” Dr. Browning said.
Dr. Browning completed his residency in 2013 at the University of Florida Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fl. Browning received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
In his free time, Dr. Browning enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, as well as fishing, boating and hunting.
